Watching Ashes emerge on the scene and deliver his message in distinctive form of thought-provoking lyrics, one is enlightened as to why this artist’s destiny undoubtedly lies in the throne of hip-hop royalty. For Ashes, rhyming isn’t just about riding the beat, but actually using it to emphasize the strongest elements of his narrative. He has little trepidation about having to prove his gift of gab because he truly has the ability to back it all up. Evident in his exceptional songwriting skills, Ashes symbolically offers his mind and soul to anyone who dares to get to know him through his music.
Growing up in Surrey, BC, Ashes started rapping at very young age. He had been rapping with his homeboys Infrared and Point Blank and landed them a track in the Prime Time the Original Soundtrack album in 1999. From his first gigs as a freestyle rapper calling-in on radio shows, to his rise to the rap recordings under the wings of Mobius Suntzu, Ashes’ quest for success in the rap game led him to become a force to be reckon with in the world of hip-hop. It is not surprising that this emcee would receive much acclamation from his fellow artists because he takes his craft seriously and is not afraid to use his God-given talent to rap about the perils of a hard knock life.
Ashes made his debut in the 1998 Land Mindz release of “Down For.” He followed that with the single “Lifetime Warranty,” recorded with his former group BNB Construction Union, on the 1999 Prime Time the Original Soundtrack compilation. Ashes eventually released his first solo track entitled “Civil War” (which features Rick Thret) in the year 2000 and since then, has applied his colossal talent on various projects, such as Brougham Camp’s hot singles “Watch Out,” “Lost Souls,” and “Let You Know.” The track “Callin’ Em Out” is Ashes’ first solo single off The Empire Strikes album.
Perhaps born to be the next messiah of hip-hop, this multi-faceted talent uses his lyrical prowess to challenge the standard of hip-hop and elevate it to the next level. His determination and confidence continually prove to be valuable qualities which help propel him to greatness despite the hurdles that might come his way. Throughout his career, Ashes has managed to position himself as a genuine artist in the business, garnering him a status as one of the ground-breaking Canadian artists.
